Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessments
At Adaptive Counselling and Psychology, we offer comprehensive Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Our goal is to provide a clear, compassionate understanding of neurodiversity while supporting individuals and families in accessing the tools and services they need to thrive.
What is Autism?
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person's brain develops and functions. People with autism differ from neurotypical individuals in their; social interactions, communication preferences, as well as their strengths and interests, behaviours, and/or sensory awareness.
What is the process of Assessment?
Given that autism is a brain-based difference, the assessment involves gathering information about the individual across their lifespan, and different settings (e.g., the home, school, workplace etc). Therefore, information can be collected from parents, teachers, or partners where deemed relevant (for adult assessments). In addition to an initial autism assessment, review assessments can also be requested for individuals who have previously received a diagnosis, but are now wanting an updated assessment/diagnosis and additional information (e.g. to assist with funding applications or support planning)
We are also able to conduct online assessments using a Telehealth delivery model to anyone living in Australia with access to a digital device like a computer or tablet.
Our assessments are conducted by experienced psychologists using evidence-based tools, such as the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised), alongside clinical interviews, developmental history, and behavioural observations. We tailor each assessment to the individual’s age, presentation, and specific concerns.
Whether you're seeking clarity for yourself or your child, an autism diagnosis can open doors to appropriate supports, educational planning, therapeutic services, and greater self-understanding. We provide a detailed assessment report, feedback session, and individualized recommendations to guide the next steps.
What to Expect:
A thorough intake session to understand concerns and history
Standardized testing and behavioural observation
Interviews with parents or caregivers (for child assessments)
A comprehensive written report and feedback session
Practical recommendations and referrals where needed
We welcome referrals from GPs, schools, allied health professionals, or you can self-refer. Our team is neuro-affirming and works to create a supportive, inclusive environment where every individual feels seen and respected.
The costs of our assessments can vary depending on the needs, and reason for referral. We charge our assessments at the standard rate of $210 per hour and only bill for the time spent conducting, writing up, and feedback session for the assessment.
